Are you thinking about applying for Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident status? Do you have little to no experience with English language? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then our ESL Program for Beginners is for you.
This class has been expertly designed to help students take their first steps towards mastering the English language and starting their exciting new life in Canada. This ESL class will prepare you to take IELTS test in the future, covering Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking skills. In doing so, you will learn how to communicate with co-workers, friends and understand written materials.
Language Arts ESL Program for Beginners aims to assist students to feel more confident using the language and to prepare them to move on to higher level training courses.
To be able to be enrolled in this program, a student must
- sit a comprehensive placement test
- not have a criminal record
Upon completion of this program the successful student will be familiar with basic English skills in reading, listening, writing and speaking. The student should be comfortable using those skills in both daily and academic settings.
Language Arts will administer a comprehensive placement test at the beginning of the course. The students will be assessed by the instructors through written chapter quizzes, tests and monthly presentations. Once the program is concluded, students will have a final written test and a mock group interview.
A student must score more than 60 % on the final assessment to fully complete the program. New student intake will be intermittent, at the first of every month, depending on space availability.
The program will be part-time: two hours per day, five days a week for four months.
Up to three hours a week will be allocated for homework. A student may be required to finish additional tasks and receive feedback based on the progression.
Classes will be conducted by in-class instruction and homework.
